What To Look For In Kids Beach Towels

Kids beach towels are great for the beach, pool, backyard, park, or even everyday use in their bathroom. They come in all shapes, sizes, colors, patterns, and fabrics. Finding the perfect kid beach towel is easy if you know what to look for. We'll help you on your hunt!

Things To Consider

There are several items to consider when shopping for beach towels for kids. Here's a list to ensure you explore all options.

Size. You can get kids beach towels in smaller sizes to wrap around your child so it won’t drag when they are walking and it will fit them better overall.  However, we personally love a bigger kids beach towel because it gives them more room to play on when they are at the beach.  Also, it can act as a blanket to keep them warm.  The standard adult size of a beach towel is around 30 inches by 60 inches so keep this in mind as a reference. 

Shape. There are several different towel shapes that you can buy for kids beach towels.  The standard rectangular shape beach towel is popular because it’s widely available, fits the body perfectly, folds easily and is great for laying on.  Kids towels also come in fun shapes that form the outline of animals, insects, or scenes.  These are super cute because the towel’s prints match the outlined shape to look just like the real thing, be it a ladybug, map, pirate scene, or horse beach towel.  Hooded beach towels are also widely available for kids.  This is because it can cover their head and it’s easier for them to wrap up in.  Kids also love these because it looks very close to a cape and they can pretend to be a super hero or their favorite star wars character.

Colors and patterns.  Kids love color and a printed or woven beach towel is a great way to teach them about colors and shapes.  Most children’s beach towels come printed with cartoon characters, animals, super heroes, or scenes.  They are great because they fill your child’s imagination and will keep them entertained for hours.  We really like the interactive scene, such as a pirate ship, because kids can bring related toys and play for hours. Disney beach towels are also great because their characters are classic and timeless.

Fabric.  Most towels are made from cotton.  There are various ranges in quality.  The weight of the towel is the primary factor of quality, with the heavier being better.  You can chose from Egyptian cotton, terry cotton, or velour.  Cotton is great because it’s durable, absorbent, and  machine washable. 

Price.  We don’t recommend spending too much money on a kid’s beach towel.  They are going to go through a lot of wear and tear and will be used all over town.  Chances are the child will get bored with the pattern and will want and new one in a year or two so keep it cheap. A solid color, such as a pink beach towel, will not get outdated as easily but kids tend to like prints better.
